Great Gorilla of Manila! It’s the Kreativ Blogger Award!

Well, would you look at that- I’ve been nominated for another award. Pretty terrific, is it not!

And with this post, I’ll introduce a challenge to anyone and everyone reading this- correctly guess where the phrase “great gorilla of Manila” came from, and you’ll win a solid gold donkey.

Ok, not really. But you’ll win my unconditional praise and affection and I’ll post something nice about you in the comments.

Now let’s get to the award already.

So what I’ve gotta do is:

  1. Thank the blogger who gave me the award.
  2. List seven interesting (or “kreativ,” one might say) facts about myself
  3. Nominate seven other bloggers for this award.

1. Let’s start with some thanks- specifically, to Terri O.A. at http://dailysweetpeas.com/. Terri is a seriously talented artist who’s got a fantastic way with words- just read these phrases aloud in your head:

“a splatter of fuzzy beige”

“It was an answer to a mumble jumble of thoughts that had cooked together until they had become a thick mash of concrete soup”

The phrase “wordsmith” comes to mind almost instantly, and if you’re a fan of the craft of writing I heartily suggest you click that link above.

2. Alright, seven interesting facts about me. Let’s do this.

  1. I once made homemade Cornish pasties and they were the most delicious things in the history of deliciousness.
  2. I will sometimes hold my dog’s ears (gently, mind you) and steer them as if she was some kind of dog-plane.
  3. If I ever go completely bald (which, sadly has already begun), then I’m going to shave my head and grow a goatee and walk around pretending I’m Walter White and it will be great.
  4. One of my least favorite words is “odor.”
  5. One of my most favorite words is “horse.”
  6. I once cut the fingers off of a pair of gloves to have really cool fingerless gloves and they were not nearly as cool as I’d thought they’d be.
  7. I just finished watching “Vertigo” by Alfred Hitchcock and it scared the crap out of me

3. And Now… The Nominations!

You should check out all of these blogs because they’re wonderful and also very “kreativ.” Or just creative.

Both work.

  1. The Modern Woman’s Society
  2. Pouring My Art Out
  3. Van Gogh and I
  4. The Focused Filmographer
  5. A Mad Man on the Run
  6. Tucker’s Hole
  7. A Helpless Compiler

And thus, the deed is done. Thanks again to Terri for the award!

  1. ‘Great Gorilla of Manila ‘ was uttered by Hermes Conrad ( voice of Phil LaMarr) in series, Futurama.
Congrats on another award. Love your posts.

  2. I recently understood the Kreativ Blogger award thing, adampbelloto! to show you how kreativ I am I’ve copied what my honored and more kreativ co-nominee said and I crtl+ v- it! So: Congrats all around. Both to you for this award, and to those that have received the honor alongside myself of receiving a nomination from you!

Tomorrow is one of the 2 days of the week when I work and get paid for, so it will take another couple of days before I could honor at my turn the honor you so unexpectedly offered me. Thank you again!

  3. Reblogged this on Van Gogh and I and commented:
I hope it’s ok (copyright wise and all…) to reblog this post in which, among other very interesting things, you can find out that I was also nominated by adampbellotto for the Kreativ Blogger Award! Oh, boy! Thank you very much, adam!

  4. Congrats!

(Oh boy! I’m so “out” of this world… and of others… I didn’t even know (till this very moment) there was such a thing as “blog awards”!
Well, being who I am it’s really “no wonder”!

I simply loved the seven interesting facts about you! And laughed out loud, meaning you REALLY have the kind of humour I’m fond of (although humour is something very, very subjective and I have this very peculiar one…) These 7 sentences on you have already shown how “kreativ” you can be.
About your blog I’m not going to express my point of view right now, just ’cause I haven’t even taken a brief look at it, yet… Sorry… Sorry for being so honest, too!
But I’ll do it. And it’s no promise; this noun along with the verb never comes out of my mouth.
Somehow you’ve already arisen my curiosity (before you my good friend Ivdanu did!)…
Just a brief question before “leaving you”: why are you people using the German word “kreativ” instead of “creative”?! Is it some kind of a joke, critics, irony, or something?! Or am I being too stupid to get the point of it?

    Congrats again!

    Celeste.

    • Thank you so much for your compliments! And I have no idea why the word “kreativ” is used rather than the English version, “creative.” Although I had no idea that “kreativ” was German.

You learn something new every day, I guess.

  5. Congrats on your award! I feel you about the fingerless gloves – lol and I just got the recipe for Cornish Pasty off a kitchen towel, from an English friend of mine. Can’t wait to make them!

  6. Congrats! I think it’s always great to have people liking and following your blog, and I think yours is lovely, very clean and interesting! Also wanted to say- thank you for visiting and following my blog! It is always appreciated. 🙂

  7. Hi Adam, Thanks for your comment. Thought I would see what your up to! Pretty great stuff congats on your awards. You write some pretty funny stuff, very Kreativ of you!
