Eastbound & Down Season 3 Debut Trailer

Ok this is gonna be a short post but I’m too excited to not talk about this one:

Eastbound & Down.

Season Three.

Which happens to be the last season the creators will ever make.

It debuts February 19th at 10:00 on HBO.

And the debut trailer is right here:

Eastbound & Down Season 3 Debut Trailer.

Eastbound & Down holds such a small, yet warm and loving place in my heart. Produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay (of Anchorman fame), it stars Danny McBride as the stupid, arrogant and oddly endearing Kenny Powers, a failed MLB pitcher trying to reinvent his career.

From the trailer, it might seem like the whole show is based on cheap, disgusting laughs, and that’s true for the most part, but through adhering strictly to a British style of production (very few episodes, only a few major writers, no filler in the writing or the episode count- much more condensed than the twenty-three or so episode season you normally find in American TV comedy) the show is able to not only be very (piggishly) funny, but also mix in moments of warmth, and melancholy, and abject failure that deliver well enough to raise Eastbound & Down high above the ranks of other, similar crass comedies.

If you’re looking for something stupidly clever and totally unique, I heartily recommend it.

Although if you’re looking for something sophisticated I’d backpedal as fast as humanly possible.

  1. It has a very odd sense of humor (similar to Anchorman or a lot of Judd Apatow’s movies that require you to sympathize with someone who’s pretty crude and stupid). I’d compare it to something like King of the Hill, which has a very unique and strange way of making jokes, but if you can fall in synch with it’s humor than it becomes very rewarding.

So, in a long-winded and pretentious way, yes. It’s pretty good.
